Job Summary:


At Community Partnership of the Ozarks, we believe financial stability programming is part of the foundation for economically healthy communities. The Financial Stability Programs consist of financial literacy education and the volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) program. The VITA program recruits volunteers to become IRS-certified and become Volunteer Tax Preparers.  VITA serves low-to-moderate income taxpayers.

Reporting Responsibilities:


This position reports to the Director of Financial Stability (DFS) and Volunteer Site Coordinator while at the VITA Clinic.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Work up to 20 hours per month/tax season and prepare Federal/State tax returns.
  • Attend training sessions as needed.
  • Pass the Advanced IRS tax preparation certification annually.
  • Work a minimum of one VITA Clinic shift per week between January 1 – April 15 (3-5 hours/week).
  • Attend Tax-a-Palooza (one day tax clinic) on the third Saturday of February.

Essential Qualifications/Skills:


  • The desire to help the community learn how to better understand their tax return.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Ability to handle difficult clients with tact and politeness.
  • Knowledge of web-based tax programs preferred.
  • No previous experience or knowledge of taxes is required!
